In fact, by paying a little money, you can let the designer worry about the little annoyances that always evade the main picture and only come haunting when you’re halfway through the job. That way, you will be more focused and have more time to spend on your actual business strategy.
Look at their portfolio of sites. Ask for references from customers and then call or email the references. Ask what kind of tech support they offer- if there is a problem with your site, how long does it take them to get back to you and to fix the problem.

I’m setting up a new business, and just need a ballpark figure (in £’s) for how much I can expect to be charged for help in designing and installing a website? How long it takes is really based on two things. 1) How complex you want your site to be 2) How nit picky you are being with your site.
One last piece of advice, if the designer did something a certain way there is probably a reason for it. Even if you dislike it, your customers probably would like it for a multitude of reasons. Remember: the designer for the most part has the end-user’s (your customers) best interests at heart.
