Meta Tags, Keywords and Page Titles or SEO?
We are working on launching our site and I have discovered that when using page view source, there are no Meta Tags, Keywords or Page Titles.
I did a little investigating on our competitors sites and found the same. Most have Page Titles but no Meta Tags or Keywords but yet their pages are ranking high in the Search Engines.
How are they ranking so high with out these key elements?
So it sounds what you are saying is that these key elements are no longer important to SEO?
Don’t assume that because your competitors make mistakes, you should too. Follow these principles to achieve page rankings that exceed those of your competitors:
1) Do use <title></title> tags. The title is used verbatim by search engines as the name of the page as it appears in search listings. Using keywords in the page title significantly helps your ranking.
See the first link, below.
2) Do use META tags, especially the <meta name="description"> tag. This is often used verbatim by Google (and others) to describe the content on your page. In some cases, Google may select text from the <body> of your page. See second link, below.
3) Forget the keywords meta tag. It is useless. Strive to put important keywords into the body text of your page, as close to the start as possible.
