How Many Hits Does the Top Website Get?
Most of the Internet is home to sites that get minimal traffic. These sites have been called the longtail. The top 100 websites receive a large proportion of Internet traffic but there are many more websites which perhaps receive only no visits a year. Check out the figures below detailing the visitor numbers for the most popular sites.
- To be the number 1 website in the world you need more than 540 million visits per month.
- To be a top 10 website you need at least 230 million visitors per month.
- To be a top 50 website you need at least 41 million visitors per month.
- To be a top 100 website you need at least 22 million visitors per month.
- To be a top 500 website you need at least 7.4 million visitors per month.
- To be a top 1,000 website you need at least 4.1 million visitors per month.
What is more amazing is that this information only counts unique visits. A website in the top 1,000 will have less than 1% of the traffic of the most popular website. Although traffic reporting is often found to be inaccurate, the figures should be seen as quite accurate.
This means that information overload is a very real problem for Internet users. There are countless of sites on the Internet – more than you could ever be able to see in a life. People may visit a handful of websites daily, hundreds of websites a year and thousands of websites only once in their lifetime. Thus, many websites have sprung up to offer solutions to this problem. Book marking websites allow you to save your favorite websites online! Furthermore, a lot of time is often spent re-registering accounts for sites you have already registered for, simply because you have forgotten the login details. Why not register for a password manager which will allow you to manage your account details. So if you ever want to go to a website again, you can easily find it and login with minimal hassle and annoyance!
Although the sheer number of websites can often be daunting when trying to find something specific, search engines are great at filtering out less relevant websites. Furthermore, if you utilize intelligent online tools and websites you can make browsing the Internet easier and more accessible. The Internet need not be difficult to use though; there are tools to bookmark your favorites and manage your passwords. Many of these tools will provide members with an online account or personal home page for you to access your information. It may be easy to use the most popular websites but the longtail can prove troublesome. Utilizing the many services available often makes it a lot easier to contend with.
